Chicago: Renowned Malayalam film actor Jayaram officially launched the 12th International Tug of War Tournament organized by the Chicago Social Club during a special kick-off ceremony held at the club headquarters.
The function was presided over by Chicago Social Club President Ronald Pookkumpan. The formal kick-off was marked by Jayaram receiving sponsorship cheques from the tournament sponsors, including Mega Sponsor Tony Kizhakkekuruttu (Elite Gaming), Kick-off Sponsor Sanju Pulickathottil (Lincolnwood Mortgage), First Prize Sponsor Joy Nediyakalayil, Fourth Prize Sponsor Shaibu Kizhakkekuruttu (Mangalya Jewellers), Saju Kannampally (Ofen Petroleum), and Brad Wisinski (Citgo Petroleum).Addressing the gathering, Jayaram said he has closely followed the Chicago Social Club’s annual Tug of War Tournament over the years and praised the organization for its leadership in bringing together the global Malayali community through such a prestigious international sporting event.The ceremony was attended by Chicago Social Club office-bearers, including President Ronald Pookkumpan, Vice President Sunny Indikkuzhy, Secretary Raju Manunkal, Treasurer Bijoy Kappan, Joint Secretary Thomas Poothettu, Tournament Committee Chairman Syriac Koovakkattil, former President and Chicago Malayalee Association President Jose Manakkat, and PRO Anil Mattathikunnel. Representatives of various Malayali organizations and clubs in Chicago, along with tug of war enthusiasts, also participated in the event.The 12th International Tug of War Tournament will be held on September 6 at the Bensenville Energy Sports Club. Teams from Australia, Italy, the United Kingdom, Kuwait, Ireland, Canada, and several other countries have already expressed their interest in participating.
On behalf of the organizing committee, Club President Ronald Pookkumpan and Tournament Committee Chairman Syriac Koovakkattil invited sports enthusiasts and members of the community to take part in and witness the international tournament.
