London, Ontario: ‘Unarvu 2.0,’ the three-day youth camp organized by KCC Western Ontario, concluded successfully, marking the second consecutive year of this initiative in Canada. Held from July 10 to 12, the camp provided young participants with a unique opportunity to develop their knowledge, leadership skills, self-confidence, and sense of community.
A total of 72 young people from various regions of Western Ontario, along with participants from Scarborough and Oshawa in the Greater Toronto Area, attended the camp. Building on the success of last year’s programme, Unarvu 2.0 featured a wider range of topics and more interactive activities, making it an enriching experience for all.
The camp included sessions on leadership development, etiquette and conduct in public places and churches, emergency response, career guidance, craft work, canvas painting, and Knanaya community awareness. The academic and training sessions were coordinated by Maria Kaitharam, Christine Pandarassery, and Lins Marangattil, with resource persons from various professional backgrounds leading the workshops.
One of the major highlights of the camp was the Mentalism Live Show presented by illusionist Febin Harippad, which captivated the participants and provided a unique and exciting experience.
The spiritual dimension of the camp was enriched through the celebration of the Holy Qurbana and Eucharistic Adoration, led by Rev. Fr. Saji Chazhissery. The combination of spiritual formation and personality development sessions added significant value to the overall camp experience.
Another notable feature was the group presentations and quiz sessions based on the unique traditions, customs, and heritage of the Knanaya community. Designed to deepen participants’ understanding of Knanaya history and cultural identity while inspiring future generations to preserve this rich heritage, these sessions generated enthusiastic participation and meaningful discussions. The creativity, teamwork, and presentation skills demonstrated by the youth further enhanced the success of the camp.
The camp was organized under the leadership of KCC Western Ontario President Feby Thaikkakath, Secretary Majeesh Keezhadath Malayil, Women’s Forum President Jesly Puthenpurayil, and Secretary Anjana Eenthunkattil. They were supported by a dedicated organizing committee comprising Siby Mulayinkil, Josmon Thekkilakkattil, Shijo Mangattu, Jibin Purathechirra, Vinu Vadakke Maniyamkunnel, Ajo Kaithakka Nirappel, Rijo Mangattu, Shelly Puthenpurayil, Simi Kalambamkuzhiyil, Lisa Perumappadam, Sheeba Mulloor, Elizabeth Korappilliyil, and Christy Aattumel.
According to the organizers, Unarvu 2.0 achieved its objective of nurturing leadership qualities, social responsibility, Christian values, and a deeper appreciation of Knanaya heritage among the younger generation, making the camp a remarkable success in every respect.
